Interserve International

About Us

Interserve is an interdenominational and international community of Christians, bringing God’s love in the hard places, amongst the neediest peoples of Asia and the Arab World through word and action.

Wherever we work, we do so in Partnership.  Partnership defines our relationships with sending and receiving churches, and mission organisations.  This is maintained by mutual respect, love and understanding.

Our 800+ mission Partners act as salt and light in some of the hardest places in the world. They use their professional skills, and/or their life skills to share the love of Christ with the people with whom they live and work, those who are marginalised and cut off from the Good News by barriers of gender, culture, religion or nationality. Interserve works at bridging the gap.

We also serve locally in Aotearoa NZ, by reaching out to migrants who are vulnerable, displaced and in need of good news.

Statement of Faith

We believe that there is one God who has revealed Himself
to be three eternal persons whom we confess as
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The Father is the Almighty Creator of heaven and earth and He so loves men and women that He sent Jesus Christ to save them from condemnation and eternal death. Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became fully human and by His sacrificial death on the Cross and by His resurrection from the dead, provided the redemption which saves those who come to Him in repentance and faith. The Holy Spirit continues Christ’s work of convicting of sin and creating faith. He imparts unity amongst God’s people and to them He gives power and love as well as gifts for different kinds of ministry.

History

Interserve was formed in 1852 by visionary British women who challenged the norms of their own society

in order to help alleviate the suffering of Indian women, many of whom lived their entire lives in seclusion in women’s quarters with no access to education, medical care, or the message of Christ. Interserve was the first interdenominational mission society in the United Kingdom, a pioneer in women’s medical missions, and was instrumental in convincing Queen Victoria to grant official sanction to the training of women doctors in the United Kingdom.

Reaching far beyond our humble beginnings Interserve now has 800 plus partners, using their professional and, or life skills, reaching out to some of the neediest people in the world.

Our Values & Our Principles

Our identity is found in belonging to God. Our values are rooted in our relationship with a triune God, as revealed in Scripture.

Love, compassion, grace, holiness and a passion for right relationships are the foundation of our commitment to be an authentic Christian community. This authenticity becomes the light force that prioritises those marginalised by geography, poverty, social status, gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation, urban and rural living. Those that have less opportunity to experience the reality of God’s Kingdom rule. Through authentic Christian community
this Kingdom and God’s nature can be known.
