When will I receive my tax receipt from Interserve?

You will receive your tax receipt for Year Ending March 31, by May 7 of that same year. If you would prefer to have Interserve email it to you, please let us know, otherwise we will mail it to your postal address. Contact Interserve on talk2us@interserve.org.nz or phone 0800 446 464 if you need to make any changes to your email or postal address.

Why should I claim a credit (formerly rebate)?

If you do not claim a credit the money remains with the government. However, if you do claim your credit, you can make your initial donation work again by donating it back to Interserve NZ. We have a growing number of people who do this each year, and on behalf of the missions and projects, we thank you for your support.

How do I donate my credit (formerly rebate) to Interserve?

To donate your credit (or part of your credit) to Interserve, follow the simple steps below:
  1. Complete the IRD Tax Credit Form IR 526. For facts on tax credits, see IR 525.
  2. Enter Interserve's IRD number 10-019-613 in Section 7 and the amount you want to transfer in Section 8 on your Inland Revenue Dept Rebate Claim Form.
  3. Attach your Interserve tax receipt (and any other relevant tax receipts) to your IR 526 and post to IRD.
  4. Finally, please contact us and let us know where you wish the donation to be directed towards. If your donation is eligible for tax credits, it will be accounted for in your next annual receipt.

How do I claim a tax credit?

If you didn’t claim for a credit (formerly rebate) last year, you will need to get the credit claim form (IR 526) from the IRD website www.ird.govt.nz, or by calling the INFOexpress on 0800 257 773.

What if I don’t receive a tax receipt or lose my original copy?

Contact Interserve on talk2us@interserve.org.nz or phone 0800 446 464 and we will be able to send you a copy. Be sure to tell us which period you are requesting a copy for.

If I want a copy for my partner do I need to contact Interserve for another tax receipt?

You don’t need Interserve to prepare separate receipts if you are sharing a receipt between yourself and your partner – you only need to complete another credit claim form and attach a note explaining that you are sharing receipts and give their name and IRD number.

When do the new tax law changes affect my giving?

The new tax changes took place for any donations made post 1 April 2008.

How do the new tax law changes affect my giving?

  • Individuals will no longer be restricted to the $1,890 limit for the donations credit. They will now be able to claim a credit up to the level of their annual net income. The credit is calculated as 33% of eligible donations.
  • The 5% maximum limit for companies has been removed and they too will be able to claim a tax deduction for donations up to the level of their annual net income.
  • The company deduction is also being extended to unlisted companies with five or fewer shareholders

Can I receive my tax receipt via email?

Yes. To request an electronic copy of your tax receipt simply email your details to talk2us@interserve.org.nz. Please be sure to tell us which period you are requesting a copy for.
