This is a primary care clinic in which local doctors work together with expatriate physicians to see both adults and children. This exciting role would include training local Central Asian doctors and seeing patients with them. Most of the patients are local people, but expatriates come to be seen at times also.  The physician would also help with weekly lectures for the local doctors.  In this role, the physician would be able to impact the lives of those doctors being trained as well as the lives and health of the patients in the community.

A family practice ambulatory care clinic established by expatriate and national doctors is seeking a family doctor to be involved in the outpatient clinic. This well established organisation draws volunteer professionals from around the world to live and work alongside local communities and government ministries, assisting in the development of both people and country.  The Family Medicine Project has been working to train local doctors in the specialty of family medicine for over ten years. Board certified family physicians with at least three years clinical experience are needed to work in a new facility which is to be a centre of training in family medicine, as well as provide mentoring  opportunities to encourage and support local family physicians. Experience in clinical medical teaching is preferred, and skills in clinic management would be helpful.  The qualified candidate must be willing to become fluent in the local language.

The Social Worker will work together with another expat who is starting the shelter but lacks a social work background. The work will involve doing intakes, counselling, and setting up training for local and expat staff. The ideal person will have a heart for women who have experienced much suffering and very little love. She will need to be loving and kind, able to listen but also able to push when needed.

Paediatric Physiotherapist  880

This development centre brings in disabled children from the countryside for intensive two-week sessions of physiotherapy and/or speech therapy. The centre has a vision to see similar facilities operating in other parts of the country as well. A Physiotherapist is urgently needed to fill the gap created by the long-term therapist returning home and the local trainee being on maternity leave. This post offers the opportunity to have a significant impact on the lives of families with disabled children, for whom very little is provided in the society. There is a need for someone who can train a Mongolian assistant to continue the work longer-term. At least a year's commitment would be good, with immediate start. (There is also an opening for a speech therapist). Ideally the physiotherapist (/speech therapist) should have experience with children, but any trained therapist would really help! S/he should be able to work with children, as well as family members, training them in how to do exercises, as well able to able to train an assistant. To work well in this culture requires flexibility and patience, as well as the willingness to take initiative and learn from others.

An NGO which strives to address root causes of poverty as it serves the people of Nepal needs surgeons to work in their hospital. The surgeons will deal with both elective and emergency general surgery, and will teach and mentor junior Nepali doctors. Flexibility, the ability to work in a resource-limited setting and an interest in teaching are required. For visa purposes, applicants must currently be registered with the national regulating body in their own country.

This rural 150-bed hospital did over 3800 deliveries in 2011. The existing obstetric team is multinational with a ratio of about 50/50 national to international doctors. The hospital also has an active community health programme and there are opportunities to be involved in research as well as clinical obstetrics. It is an integrated rural health and development program with extensive community work, and there are strong links between the community antenatal clinics and the hospital.
An obstetrician is urgently needed for the hospital after the departure of a long-term senior obstetrician. The post includes a significant training component as national junior doctors are part of the team and come expecting postgraduate training.  The hospital is nationally known for its training of nurse-midwives and community midwives as well as doctors.

As a medical teacher you will work with local medical students to inspire and teach, and prepare them for rural service in their early years post-university. This organisation has been running a Vocational Training Programme, a Mental Health Programme and a Children's Welfare Programme for over 10 years. There is a strong commitment to the process of deinstitutionalisation and supporting vulnerable people to become integrated in mainstream society with every opportunity to lead full lives.   The project is able to work with the local state psychiatric hospital to support those with mental health problems in a wide area of the country. By providing music, painting, and handicraft classes we have regular interactions with the patients reminding them of skills, talents, and interests they had before coming to the institution.  We also work with doctors to facilitate and encourage transitioning patients back to their homes. The Project is looking for someone with the skills to work in occupational therapy among those with mental health challenges.  Someone with the experience and ability to come alongside and influence the quality of care and assessment of patients is desirable.
