Rural Development Worker  754

There is need for individuals with qualifications or experience in horticulture, water conservation, soil erosion, agricultural techniques, agricultural education, animal husbandry or micro-credit to work with a Christian international development organisation.  The organisation’s activities have included income generation through micro credit, apiculture and rabbit keeping, water and soil conservation including forest management, minimising use of fire wood, introducing low evaporation irrigation techniques and construction of three hill lakes and connection to a storage tank with irrigation outlets and renovation of springs. Most of the communities involved are in drought-prone regions and have high levels of poverty.

PAID POSITIONS! Companies, donor agencies, NGOs and government organisations all need short-term consultant advice from time to time. Areas include; water engineering, ecology, agriculture, economics, business, finances, education, mining, shale oil, tourism, civil engineering, etc. These short term assignments have their own terms of reference and are usually from 1 - 6 months. They are well paid positions and generally provide an excellent, low risk way to learn about the country and have some influence with colleagues. Generally Arabic is not required for these assignments, although the more language and culture you have, the more relevant your life will be to others.

Horticulturalist / Farmer  310

Through this organization's activities, involved in reviving the once abundant fruit-growing region of this country, 60 new orchards have been planted which have impacted 12 communities. Partnerships with local farmers have helped to greatly improve profitability. This job involves joining a team of expatriates working with local farmers to assist and train them in developing profitable fruit-growing farms. Experience in orchard management of apples, pears, apricots, plums and peaches would be particularly helpful. A background in fresh fruit marketing and storage would be useful.

Agriculture Specialist/Advisor  803

The job would involve providing support and advice to existing projects, planning and conducting a survey of agricultural providers in the region and organizing training opportunities resulting from the survey; including teaching local classes and creating, planning and speaking at locally held seminars, workshops and training programmes. Additionally, the qualified candidate would provide solutions to identified agricultural problems and research and provide information for the ongoing development of training material. S/he would act as ongoing advisor to individual farmers following training programmes. The suitable candidate would have a university degree and experience in Agriculture and teaching qualifications would be an advantage. Work experience in a second culture would also be helpful.

We are looking for someone to join our existing long-term multinational team, who is able to deal with high altitude (8000-9000 ft) farming and its considerations.  This person needs to utilize community development entry and assessment techniques as it relates to research of appropriate crops, nutritional needs, planting and growing seasons, irrigation etc, to positively impact a remote society where lack of adequate foods supplies is the norm.

Farm Manager  676

A fair trade and organic certified silk and tea farm with local and export markets is in need of a manager, whose prime role would be to support the local staff in increasing efficiency and production and to expand the network of local village silk-cocoon growers. The position would suit an experienced manager with a background in agriculture. Specific training in silk and tea production will be provided. The ability to cope in rural/isoloated area would be necessary.
